Where IPinfo fits
IPinfo is a network data choice rather than a replacement for user authentication. It helps explain the address your service sees: its network, location context and applicable privacy indicators. That is valuable when the account workflow already exists and needs an enrichment layer.
Collection and outputs
Query the IP API from a trusted server integration. Core documents VPN, Tor, proxy and relay privacy detection. Max adds details such as residential proxy detection and service names. Choose a plan based on the fields your decisions actually need.
| Evidence area | Documented role |
|---|---|
| Network | Core privacy flags; Max adds residential proxy and service detail |
| Device | IP data does not supply browser identity |
| Account context | Connection context for your own account workflow |
Freshness and integration handling
Use an explicit cache policy for connection enrichment. A stable account can change networks and a shared exit can serve unrelated users; neither event should permanently inherit another observation’s risk.
Strengths
- Structured IP and ASN enrichment
- Clear separation between Lite and privacy-data tiers
- Useful network context for existing systems
Limits and plan conditions
Lite does not include the same privacy fields as Core or Max. An IP-based location is not proof of the person’s physical location.
What to check in a pilot
Compare Lite, Core and Max fields against your integration requirements before evaluating price. Include ordinary carrier networks and privacy relays so the team sees which records are network context and which outcomes require more account evidence.
Use the evaluation framework to record collection completeness, the reasons returned and the customer outcome. Compare the cost of your actual checks, not just the number of accounts in your database.
Consider an alternative when
The missing capability is persistent device continuity or a ready-made account event, rather than network enrichment. Compare a device-and-account platform and the collection it requires.
Compare the alternatives →Inspect a public demo or checker
Inspect the visible connection, network and available anonymization data. Verify paid API fields against the selected Core or Max plan.

Does the free Lite plan detect VPNs?
Lite is described as country and ASN data. Core and Max carry the privacy features used in this comparison.
Is the 26 US dollar entry a monthly contract price?
It is the displayed monthly equivalent for annual billing on Core. Compare the billing term and request allowance together.
Does Max replace device intelligence?
No. Its additional network detail can enrich a workflow, while browser identity and account history remain separate inputs.
